The Wicked King Book Review
Book #9: The Wicked King by: Holly Black
Overall rating: 8/10
The Wicked King is a great second book in the Folk of the Air series. It keeps expanding on events in the first book, and there are even more plot twists and betrayals than the first book. Readers are kept on the edge of their seats throughout the whole story, and the end of the book only makes it better.
The start really kicks the book off. This time, the story is a little more fast paced in the beginning, and it makes the book more exciting to read in the beginning. The whole pace is mostly maintained throughout the book, with one part that is a little slower than the others.
Jude is still an amazing character in this book! She still has the manipulative, power grabbing personality I love. Cardan is also more featured in this book than the first one. Since he does have a major role in the world of the story, I got to see the good parts of him more often than the bad ones. He’s not really the cruel prince anymore, and I could see a lot of character development.
The romance in this book was more intense than the first book, but that was only a small section of the book. It truly embodies the enemies to lovers trope; however, it’s not quite at the ‘lovers’ stage yet, if it will ever be. I feel like some parts were a little bit rushed, but it was alright.
The Wicked King also successfully continues the first book and sets the stage for the last book in the trilogy. The plot became a lot more interesting in this book than the first book, and there’s just so much more potential for the third book. The Wicked King’s cliffhanger is honestly really awesome, and I can’t wait to devour the last book in the series.
The Wicked King was a great book, and it was generally better than The Cruel Prince. I can’t wait to read The Queen of Nothing.
