Let the Sky Fall Book Review

Book #2: Let the Sky Fall by: Shannon Messenger

Overall rating: 7/10

To be honest, I’m a big fan of Keeper of the Lost Cities. So when I learned that Shannon Messenger wrote another book series, I was literally rushing to get the books. Overall, this first book has been a really entertaining read, with some points for improvement.

In the book, the main character, Vane Weston, and his parents were caught in a “tornado” ten years before the book takes place. Vane’s parents perished, but Vane survived. Vane only has one memory from the tornado: Audra. Audra is Vane’s sworn protector. When the people searching for Vane are closer than ever before, Audra has to help Vane become what he truly is, even if he doesn’t realize it. Laced with romance, filled with suspense, and featuring extensive world-building, Let the Sky Fall is a great start to the book series with the same name.

The perspectives in this book vary greatly. On one hand, Vane’s perspective was very entertaining to read, and some passages had me laughing out loud. On the other  hand, Audra’s perspective was quite the opposite. The worldbuilding is also amazing. It’s really unique to have a fictional culture be rooted in the wind. However, I wish there was more interaction between more characters. I felt the ending was lackluster, and that Vane and Audra could have gone to the “sylph kingdom” rather than what actually happened. However, there could be a chance all of that could happen in the second book.

The characters really did develop throughout the story. The romance was also very sweet, but a little overdone. But maybe that’s because I read too much slow burn. Like I said before, Vane’s character was really snarky, but he can also be sweet sometimes, especially for Audra. I don’t really have that much to say about the characters, however.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys fast paced YA fiction, with a hint of romance. I am really excited to see where the next plotline goes. This was a really good book to read!
