The Naturals Book Review
Book #4: The Naturals by: Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Overall rating: 9/10
The Naturals is an intriguing mystery book filled with a lot of plot twists and turns that always kept me guessing for the characters’ next move. It’s perfect for fans of The Inheritance Games, which was also written by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
The story follows 17 year old Cassie Hobbes, a natural at reading people and figuring them out. Her skill attracts the attention of the FBI, who recruit her for “The Naturals” program. The Naturals program is for children her age who also possess special skills like Cassie’s, so they can help the FBI solve cold cases. However, when there is an active serial killer, Cassie discovers that she may be the next target.
I really liked the different personalities of Cassie’s friends in The Naturals. They each had diverse personalities and skills, and they were a big part of what made the book happen. I really enjoyed getting to know them.
While there is romance in The Naturals, it doesn’t take over the story. I really appreciate that, as it was the perfect balance for me in the book. However, there is a love triangle that doesn’t quite get resolved in the book.
The Naturals is the first part of a series, but to be honest, it’s also a great stand alone book. The ending was mostly conclusive, and I was happy that there wasn’t a cliffhanger. However, there are some unresolved issues that I would love to read about in future books.
The Naturals was just an amazing book to read. I don’t have any points for improvement, but there was just a little bit missing… I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series and review them!
